Background

Sue Ryder is a charity, founded in 1953 by Sue Ryder, with the creation of a nursing home in Suffolk, UK. Sue Ryder supports people with complex needs and life-threatening illnesses,  across the UK and internationally.

The organisation is dedicated to providing person-centred hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening life-changing diagnosis.  It’s not just the expert medical care they provide – in addition to the emotional support they take care of the practical things.

The Challenge

Sue Ryder operate a distribution and warehouse facility from Northampton and wanted the ability to provide a wireless network within the warehouse, to enable scanners to have network connectivity.  The aim was to provide improved response times for inbound and outbound logistics.

The Solution

A robust warehouse wireless LAN to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to Sue Ryder’s existing scanner devices.

Having worked with Cisco’s technology, Contra knew that their Meraki Wi-Fi would provide the solution to the problem posed to them.  Cisco Meraki products come out of the box feature-rich with attributes including:

  • centralised management
  • layer 7 device and application visibility
  • real time web-based diagnostics
  • monitoring
  • reporting

Cisco Meraki deploys quickly and easily, without training or proprietary command line interface.  So, they were the ideal solution for Sue Ryder, both for their robust build and their ongoing measurement and maintenance.

Contrac undertook a comprehensive site survey which provided Sue Ryder’s IT management team with a thorough report profiling the access point locations and the performance expectations of the network.  Contrac installed all the access points over a 3-day period, with minimal disruption, resulting in full coverage of the distribution facility.

The Outcome

A fully-secure and reliable warehouse Wi-Fi infrastructure, providing full coverage to the handheld devices helping Sue Ryder to service the distribution requirements of the organisation and improve response times.
